Stage 2 Consultation Survey

Have Your Say

Using the findings of the Stage 1 consultation, we have started to look at possible locations for different types of provision and uses. Suggestions are based on people's views, priorities and feedback on the project so far.

On the map below, you can select each of the blue circles to find out more about the site and some suggestions for each area. The existing buildings and structures have been outlined, but don't let this limit your ideas! Main access routes (both vehicle and pedestrian) are highlighted by arrows.

If you have any difficulty in using the map or would like to review all of the proposals together, you can download a pdf document ( here ) or further down the page.

Click on the 10 circles on the map above for more information or download the pdf document ( here )

As you can see, there are a range of ideas and suggested uses for different areas of the site, including:

  • Leisure entertainment to attract visitors;
  • Pedestrianised areas and public squares (including a boulevard in front of the Washlands);
  • A Washlands Visitor Centre with integrated café, bike hire facility and environmental education opportunities;
  • Protection and repurposing of the Bass Water Tower, a landmark heritage building;
  • Enhancements to the Garden and Remembrance and improvements to Andressey Passage;
  • A small residential development fronting onto the High Street, adjacent Meadowside Drive;
  • A heritage centre (museum) in the listed Town House building, fronting the High Street;
  • A retail hub incorporating a food/drink use in the listed Bass Housing building, fronting the High Street.
  • What do you think?

    Please take a look at the questions below to provide your views on the outline proposals. Your response will help shape the development of this project. All responses to this consultation will be reviewed and fed into sketch designs for the site, which will form the basis of the Stage 3 consultation.

    Please note:

    Any responses to the survey below that refer to possible future uses of the library building/land will not be taken as support for or against the proposed relocation of the library. The consultation for that project has taken place separately. Any suggestions for that land as part of this project are only included if the library relocation project (Project E) goes ahead. If the business case for that project is not approved and the project does not go ahead, the library building/land will no longer be included as part of this proposal.

    Similarly, this project refers to land that is in various ownership, such as Bass House. Whilst these properties are not in the ownership of the Borough Council, please consider the questions about them in case they become available for acquisition in the future.
